We had been watching the weather for Jackson, New Jersey – the town Six Flags Great Adventure is in – and it didn’t look good.
In fact, it looked downright abysmal.
We were getting ready to head out on our first roller coaster riding trip of the year – our first stop was at Kings Dominion down in Virginia and then we planned to drive north to hit up Six Flags Great Adventure so we could ride the brand new Flash: Vertical Velocity – the very first SUPER BOOMERANG roller coaster in North America!
The forecast was temps in the 50’s and rain threatening all day. And so, we debated: should we cut Six Flags from our trip? Should we find another weekend this summer to make the drive over to Great Adventure? Or, should we gamble and roll the dice – assuming that the chilly, rainy weather would keep the crowds at bay and leave us the entire park to ourselves? (But, also risking that roller coasters might not open or close down early because of it being too cold to run?)
Well, we decided to gamble – and even though it WAS freezing cold and rainy all day – we successfully got our rides in on Flash, we felt like we had the entire park to ourselves (a manager told us less than 2,000 people were in the park in TOTAL), and we had a great day hanging out with Austin (our good roller coaster enthusiast friend – give him a follow!)
Spoiler alert: I am OBSESSED with Flash! It was better than I could have ever expected and it totally blew my socks off!
And because – what’s a blog post without photos – here are just a few (these are a mix of iPhone snaps & photos taken with my “big” camera – I didn’t take a ton of photos with my “big” camera, simply because it was on-and-off raining all day, plus with the grey sky, I knew the photos would simply turn out pretty “blah” anyways.)
