5 Wedding Day Content Creator MYTHS

5 Wedding Day Content Creator Myths - the most common misconceptions about what Wedding Day Content Creators are and do

Last week, I shared a post talking about the newest vendor to step into the wonderful world of weddings: The Wedding Day Content Creator.
(If you missed that post, I wrote extensively about what a Wedding Day Content Creator IS – go back and read it here!)

But this week, I wanted to address FIVE of the most common MYTHS I’ve seen surrounding Wedding Day Content Creators.

Believe it or not – not everyone in the wedding industry at large has been super welcoming of this new type of vendor. In fact, the wedding industry seems split right down the middle as to whether they “like” (and want to accept and play nice) with this new wedding vendor stepping onto the scene or not. Depending on who you talk to – some vendors love the idea and concept, while others are blatantly (and loudly) against it.

I honestly think most of the reasons vendors fall into the “against” role is because of some very common misconceptions. Wedding Day Content Creators are brand spankin’ new in the wedding world, so if you’ve never worked with one – your mind might automatically make up whatever you might think they would be: what they look like, what they act like, and what their job is on the wedding day.

As always, the best way to fight common misconceptions is with education – so let’s talk about:

The 5 Biggest Myths Surrounding The Wedding Day Content Creator

1. A Wedding Day Content Creator Is Just Anyone With An iPhone

While Wedding Day Content Creators do shoot all of their footage on phones (we do this in order to stay out of your photographer and videographer’s exclusivity clauses) – we are way more than “just anyone”.

Every Wedding Day Content Creator is different and comes from a different background – but most of us have experience in the wedding industry, the content creation industry, or both (which is my case).

Of course, as is the case with every vendor on a wedding day, there are those who are just starting out and those who don’t have as much experience – but the PROFESSIONAL Wedding Day Content Creators are much more than just “anyone” with an iPhone:

  • They are current with wedding trends.
  • They are proficient at filming with their iPhones.
  • They carry professional gimbals and backup equipment.
  • They are accomplished editors and can turn your edited footage back around to you quickly.
  • They are dressed and present themselves professionally.
  • They know and understand proper wedding day etiquette.
  • They have a creative plan for the day. (Which takes me into #2.)

2. A Wedding Day Content Creator Just “Shows Up” On A Wedding Day

Professional Wedding Day Content Creators work together with their couples leading up to the wedding day to form a creative and strategic plan for the day. (They aren’t just showing up and flying by the seat of their pants.)

They usually get on a call with the bride and groom a few weeks before the wedding to plan any specific short-form content that will be filmed, to get a copy of the wedding day timeline, and to communicate expectations and answer questions.

In other words: communication is key and Wedding Day Content Creators are in close communication with the couple leading up to their big day.

Additionally, Wedding Day Content Creators work closely with not only the couple, but their planner, their photographer, and videographer as well. The best wedding days that go off without a hitch are the ones in which every vendor is on the same page and working together to create the best results for the bride and groom.

3. A Wedding Day Content Creator Replaces Your Professional Videographer and/or Photographer

Each vendor on a wedding day has a specific job to do – whether that’s the professional photographer, professional videographer, or Professional Wedding Day Content Creator.

+Your professional wedding videographer will capture the cinematic video and crystal clear audio that you’ll watch with tears in your eyes for decades to come. They will be shooting horizontal footage, on high-quality video cameras, with professional mics, sound equipment, and lighting. Their end product will be optimized to watch on your TV.

+Your professional wedding photographer will capture the photos you hang on your wall, fill a beautiful album with, and give as gifts to your Grandma. They will be shooting on high-quality digital cameras, with interchangeable lenses, and off-camera flashes. Their end product is optimized to be printed and displayed for generations to come.

+Your Wedding Day Content Creator will capture the behind the scenes, raw, and unfiltered moments of your wedding day. We deliver your footage (a mix of both videos and photos) to you the very next day, allowing you to share your newly married status with the world! We shoot vertical footage, on iPhones, with gimbals and low-key lighting. Our end product is optimized to share on social media.

As you can see – each of these wedding vendors is specific and different. Each plays a very important and unique role on a wedding day – and one could never replace the other.

4. A Wedding Day Content Creator Doesn’t Care About The Professional Photos and Videos

A very common misconception is that Wedding Day Content Creators only care about one thing: what they’re creating for social media. And while, yes – obviously creating content for social media is our entire job – we know our place in the wedding world. We know that the content we film is not destined to be hung on walls or watched on a TV.

But we do know that our content is what the bride and groom will be sharing first.
Our content is what the bride and groom will have at their fingertips most conveniently.
And our content is what the bride and groom will use to immediately lock in all of their precious memories of their wedding day.

A Wedding Day Content Creator’s footage will be what the couple pulls out to share on their honeymoon. It will be the footage the couple puts filters on and gets creative with while they wait for their professional photographer and videographer to create the art that will hang on their walls and be watched on their TV.

I obviously can’t speak for every Wedding Day Content Creator, but personally – I know my place in the wedding world. I never want the back of my head to show up in the corner of your professional photos or videos (which is why I love working together with your professional photographer and videographer so that we can all be on the same team).

5. A Wedding Day Content Creator Is Going To Take Over The Wedding Day With Filming TikTok Trends

While TikTok trends and transitions are a ton of fun – most Wedding Day Content Creators limit the amount of trends and transition-content that they will film on a wedding day.

If you’ve ever tried to film one of those trendy TikToks with transitions yourself, you know that they take time (and they can take a lot of time). So, most Wedding Day Content Creators will limit the specific trends that they re-create to 3 max on a wedding day.

After all, these trends are fun, but they aren’t everything.

Filming TikTok trends needs to be written into the wedding day timeline so that we have enough time and sometimes, they require special planning (and practice) ahead of time. This is something Wedding Day Content Creators talk with their couples about on those planning calls leading up to the wedding day.

Wedding Day Content Creators are exceptionally creative people, but we never want to cut into the time that the hair and makeup artists need, the travel time from one location to the next, or the time the professional photographer and videographer need to create their art.

CONCLUSION

There are many more myths surrounding this brand new “thing” – the Wedding Day Content Creator.
However, I believe most of the myths are out there simply because it is so new and most wedding vendors have not worked with one (or a professional one) yet.
As Wedding Day Content Creators become more and more common (industry experts are estimating that by the end of 2025, 75% of weddings will have Wedding Day Content Creators at them!) these myths will dissipate and become less of an issue.

Until then, if you are a wedding vendor: I invite you to have an open mind. Instead of instantly writing off Wedding Day Content Creators are terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad people, do your research! Find a Wedding Day Content Creator in your local area and invite them out to coffee so tat you can get to know them and get to know what they do better. Who knows? Maybe you’ll end up finding your new favorite wedding industry friend.
