An Outdoor Summer Portrait of a Black Lab in Irwin, PA

Highlight of the Week

This week was the semi-annual Just Between Friends sale in Monroeville, PA. It’s a gigantic kids consignment sale – and it’s literally bigger than you can imagine! Thousands upon thousands of items ranging from big outdoor toys, to clothes & shoes, to legos & books, to bedding & decor, to just about every toy imaginable. It’s almost insane how much stuff is at this sale.

This spring is the 4th time in a row that my Mom & I have gone (it’s held semi-annually, so it’s in the spring & fall). It’s the 3rd time I’ve actually taken stuff to sell. The way it works (in a nutshell), you price & tag your items, then bring them to the sale. Being a consigner, you get special access in to shop a day early (which honestly, is almost a better perk than the paycheck you get after your stuff sells!). It’s so fun to be one of the first people in the door & to get first dibs on all the stuff. Getting in early means you get your pick of the best items & the best prices (for example, there might be 3 or 4 or 10 of the same toy that you want, and getting in early means you get to pick up the one that’s priced the best). Then, at the end of the sale, you choose whether you want your remaining unsold items to be donated or if you want to pick them up. I have never been able to pick up my items because I’ve always been away. This weekend though, we’re home! So, I was honestly all geared up to take a ton of stuff & be fine with it not selling because I was planning on just picking it up! However! I found out just last week that they changed their pickup process & instead of pickup being Sunday night (like always), it’s now Monday night. Big problem: we won’t be in the state of Pennsylvania on Monday night! So, instead of taking a ton, I just picked out the things that I was fine donating if they didn’t sell. Oh well, hopefully in the fall I can take a ton & make some good money!

I absolutely LOVE the sale though! I don’t know what it is, but it’s terribly addicting! Something about not knowing what is all there, and digging through items to find that perfect something. This time, our “perfect something” finds were: a complete Life of Pets mini-plush collection, a sleepy Daniel Tiger plush, and a roller coaster book! Of course, my Mom & I picked up a bunch of other things too (some things we are putting away for Christmas & birthdays) but those were the cream of the crop, for us!

Yes, This Happened

  • Braelynn has been sick all week. It’s been rough. She had some sort of stomach-bug thing Sunday/Monday/Tuesday which cleared up only for her to come down with a cold Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday. We’re praying that she gets better since we leave for vacation on Monday! It’s also meant that our lovely week of her sleeping through the night was shattered and she was up multiple times & in our bed most of this week. I feel like, we take 1 step forward & then 2 steps back. Eventually, we’ll get there, right? (“there” being her sleeping entirely through the night, on her own, in her own bed, in her own room)
  • Easter weekend was last weekend – MAN! It already feels like it was so long ago & yet it was less than a week ago. We spent a little extended time at the lake & it was perfect.

Feeling Blessed

We are getting ready to leave for a big trip! And it’s a big deal: not only because we’re going to our destination via airplane (so, it’s definitely going to be an adventure with Braelynn!) and we’ll be gone for a week, but because this is a trip we have been talking about for years. Literally, Derrick has been talking about & dreaming about this trip for at least 4-5 years & it’s finally happening!! We’re super excited & also a little nervous – we leave on Monday! Any “traveling advice” in regards to flying/traveling/vacationing with a 2 year old is super appreciated!!
