Highlight of the Week

Last weekend we had the most splendid time reconnecting with Derrick’s college roommate & his family! So often, time & distance will kill a friendship, but then there are those friendships that neither seem to have an effect on. You pick right back up where you left off & it’s like nothing has ever happened. I am so thankful for friendships like that! And Derrick’s college roommate, Caleb & his wife Steph, definitely fit into that category. It’s been almost exactly a year since the last time we saw them, but they walked in on Friday night & it was like no time had passed. The only thing that would tip you off that it’s been a while since we’ve seen each other is our kids: they’ve grown so much in the last year! They arrived on Friday night & were here until Sunday & we just had the best time. The kids ran around & played and we sat around & talked and it was just so wonderful to reconnect!

Yes, This Happened

  • We haven’t had a car all week. It’s a long story, but in a nutshell: a few weeks ago we noticed some scratches on the hood of our car. It’s in a really odd place (the hood of the car?) and we were really confused by it. Then, as we looked closer, we noticed more scratches, and gouges, and dents. We have no idea where it all came from, when it happened, or where it happened! Thankfully, our insurance is the best & they are completely covering the cost of the repairs. The only downside is, literally the entire car (except the front & back bumper) needed repainted & repaired. Obviously, that takes time, so Braelynn & I haven’t had a car all week. Hopefully, we’ll get it back on Monday – in brand new condition!
  • Since I knew we’d be spending our entire week at home, I had big plans of potty training Brealynn & a couple of big tasks I had on my to-do list for my business. Wedding season is right around the corner, and there are a few things I need to get done in preparation for busy season! Well, none of it happened. Instead, I spent the entire week fighting off a horrible cold (and it caught  me on Thursday – I went to bed at 5:30pm that night) I just felt so run-down and awful. So, no potty training and no big business tasks. Oh well. Sometimes, I guess we need slow weeks to just be slow & not packed full with things to do!
  • Speaking of potty training though – Braelynn is super ready to go! Over the last few days, she’s been telling us that she wants to go on the potty and then actually going when she sits down! Amazing! This Mama just needs to get her act together & make it happen! I’m accepting all tips & tricks & secrets & help I can get, so if you have any advice, I’d love to hear it! Share it in the comments below for me, will you?

Feeling Blessed

I’m so thankful for a hard working husband! Derrick got a promotion a few weeks ago at work and he worked a total of two weeks in his new position. However, this week, due to a ton of craziness, he has been back covering his old route. I feel bad because he was just feeling like he was beginning to get the hang of this new job and he’s back doing his old job again. We were getting into a good routine of getting up at a new time and him being home at the same time every night, and this week has been all weird hours and crazy working again. He’s been after it like a champ though, not complaining, and just doing what he needs to do. I’m really proud of him and how he’s been handling all the unknowns and continuing to roll along. I’m so thankful to have a dedicated & hard working husband!

ANNNDDD – I almost forgot the BIGGEST blessing of them all!! My photography was featured on not one but TWO wedding blogs this week! Seriously, it has been the craziest week. I feel like I’ve been rundown and fighting off sickness (so cuddled up in sweats & warm fuzzy blankets on the couch) on the inside, but on the outside I feel like I’ve been shouting from the rooftops because getting published is simply amazing! It’s been quite the road, and I’ve been working at it for months, and to finally see hard work paying off – it’s incredible.

If you missed the two features, you seriously need to check them out (and leave me some love) here: Rustic Wedding Chic Feature and here: Wedding Colors Feature!
