Abby’s Saturday // Three Hundred And Eighty-Six

03 Abbys Saturday Black Lab in Unicorn Hat in Irwin PA
  • Normally, the “Abby in a winter hat” is my first Abby’s Saturday photo of the year – but with New Year’s falling on Saturday this year, I wanted to enter the year with something celebratory.
And then, we got our first snow of the season last week – so that obviously needed documented.
And that brings us to “week 3”!
If you’d like to go back & see the other hats Abby has worn in years past, you can see those here: #332, #280, #181, #129, #21 (it’s a good progression to show our poor pup’s grey hair coming in around her nose – poor girl!)
  • Speaking of Abby’s Saturday – this week I posted my 2021 Behind-The-Scenes/Blooper post!! Did you miss it? Well, if you rely on Facebook to notify you of new blog content than yes you did, because Facebook “forgot” about me & did not post the posts I had scheduled out for this week. OOPS.
Regardless: it’s one of my favorite posts every year!! Taking photos of a dog plus two kids on a weekly basis gets pretty “chaotic” at times & there are SO many images that hit the “cutting room floor” & never see the light of day.
    Go check it out!
  • I feel like it’s been the week of “researching” – I’ve been researching different photographer options for several friends (all for different reasons that I was unable to help with), I’ve been researching locations for a portrait session I have coming up (lots of digging around Google Maps, Satellite View, and Google Earth – technology is amazing!), and I’ve been digging thru old files & photo albums, looking for a photo that I’m not even sure exists (but I was hoping it did).
  • Tuesday was my favorite day of the month: Tuesday’s Together day! We met virtually this month due to so many of our members (and my friend Tiffany – our leader) all being exposed to different illnesses. It is always so delightful to see other faces & talk about what’s going on in our businesses! Being self-employed comes with a lot of perks, but one of the downsides that people rarely talk about is the isolation it also brings. Sure, I sit in front of my computer & “talk” to people all day long: emails, blog posts, captions, comments, DMs – but actually seeing another human being’s face & having a conversation with them is a rarity (unless you count my kids – but, they don’t count). So, these monthly gatherings of like-minded small business people is like water to my thirsty soul!
  • I took my very first LIVE Peloton class this week! I’ve been using the Peloton app (with my Peloton dupe bike – I wrote all about that here & here) for a year now (and, secret, I still love it!) but I’ve always only taken recorded classes. They’re easier because I can literally take them whenever and I can choose the parameters: how long do I want to ride, how intense, what kind of music do I want to listen to, what instructor, etc. Well, on Thursday I was looking at the Peloton app & decided to check out the schedule of upcoming live classes & saw that one of my favorite instructors was going to be doing a class at 5:30am the next morning! I decided: what the heck – and set my alarm to get up & take it! I normally get up at 6am every day, so 5:30am wasn’t all that bad. And it was really fun! It was fun to see all the people I was riding with in the exact same moment and know that I was seeing things in real-time. I’ll definitely be doing it again!
  • We took down all of our Christmas stuff last weekend. I wasn’t intending to take it ALL down – I just wanted to take the ornaments off the tree. Then, before we knew it, one thing led to another & the lights were off the tree, the tree was being carted back upstairs, we were taking all the garland & decor down from the mantel & around the house – and suddenly, it was all gone.
Thankfully, we do still have some snow stuff up & we still have lights around the perimeter of the living room (just to provide some glow on these dark days), but otherwise, Christmas is all gone.
That hasn’t stopped Leander from singing, “Santa Claus is coming to town,” asking for presents (on the daily), and wishing me Merry Christmas every night at bedtime though (and I love it). I think he’s going to have a really hard time in 2 weeks when it’s Braelynn’s birthday & she’s receiving all the gifts – he’s just not going to get it – yikes.
  • We had my parents & Ruby & Nathan & Amy over for dinner last weekend – it was delightful. Derrick had gone to the store for breakfast stuff early Saturday morning & came home with steak! He had found buy one get one free steak, so he bought a bunch! And then, we invited a whole crowd over to help us eat it! I wish he’d find deals like that more often.
  • I took a bunch of new, updated headshots of myself yesterday! It must be the time of year because in looking back, I seem to do “self-portrait-headshots” every year in January/February! I must say, it’s SO much easier now, with my new camera, than it ever used to be! It’s so smart, I can set it to automatically find & focus on my eye, and I can control it via Bluetooth from my phone! No more trying to manually guess a focus point & then running back & forth with a timer! Derrick is going to help me film some promo stuff for my new business today – it’s exciting!
  • SNOW IS COMING! We are forecasted to get anywhere from 6-12″ of snow tomorrow into Monday! Of course, we’ll see, but it’s SUPER exciting & I cannot wait!!
