Abby’s Saturday // Three Hundred And Twenty-Seven

Happy Thanksgiving from the Abbeys in Irwin PA
  • What a week it’s been in the Abbey house.
We’ve all been sick, all week.
Now, before you panic & assume that we have COVID, we truly, honestly do not think that we do. It all started on Sunday morning – Leander woke up pretty grumpy, with a slight runny nose. We honestly wondered if it was just a fluke, but a few hours later, he was completely stuffed up & coughing. Monday evening, Braelynn began to show signs of catching the cold, and by Tuesday morning, it slammed into me like a brick wall. All 3 of us had full-blown nasty colds – running noses, congestion, & coughs (but no fevers). Derrick began to feel like he was getting it on Wednesday, but so far (knock on all the wood) he has avoided getting hit like the rest of us by drinking lots of tea (with lemon & honey) and taking lots of vitamins.
On Tuesday, when Braelynn & I came down super sick, I knew that we weren’t going to be going anywhere for Thanksgiving. (In fact, I’m pretty sure I vowed never to leave our house again since I’m pretty sure Leander picked this up when we were out Christmas shopping last week.) Thankfully, I had had the suspicion that that might be the case when I did an Instacart order on Monday – to which I added some “Thanksgiving” food: stuffing, green bean casserole ingredients, and everything to make pies. Derrick picked up a turkey on Tuesday night & by Wednesday evening when he came home from work, we all settled in for a comfy, cozy, 4 days at home. We had no reasons to leave, but every reason to stay in our pajamas every day, lay on the couch, watch endless rounds of Cars & Toy Story, and do our very best to get better.
Thankfully, it is now Saturday afternoon – and everyone is feeling much better than we were earlier in the week. We’re all still slightly stuffy & coughing (Braelynn even lost her voice & it’s still pretty crackly) but we’re no longer planted on the couch, unable to move.
The goal is to stay home, continue to rest & take it easy, and get 100% better – because this coming week holds a BIG day for our sweet little boy!
  • If you are looking at today’s Abby’s Saturday photo & thinking it looks familiar, you would be correct! I’ve taken a photo with this banner (in this exact spot – except for that one year where I messed with things & took it in a different location) for the past few years now. And, even as I was struggling to take this photo this week (it seriously is SO challenging to get a sassy little girl, a strong-willed toddler, and a dog to all cooperate at the same time!) I am SO thankful that I persevered & got the photo I wanted. Just looking back from this year to last year makes my heart burst – how are my little babies so big?!
(PS: I didn’t suggest Leander put the string in his mouth – he did that on his own – just like he did last year!)
Take a stroll down memory lane & see the other Abby’s Saturdays I’ve taken with this banner: #275, #227, #123.
  • Well, since I’ve vowed not to leave my house again, I’ve been shopping from the comfort of my couch, trying to finish off my Christmas list – I’m SO CLOSE! I’m down to those few people on my list that, every year, I have zero ideas what to buy for them. The gap is closing though & I’ve set a goal to be completely done Christmas shopping by December 1st! We’ll see if I can do it – wish me luck!
  • So, Derrick & I bought ourselves an early Christmas present this week – but since we’ve been sick, we haven’t even had a chance to really try it out yet! We bought an exercise bike! We own a treadmill, but it’s down in our basement & even though I can use it, it takes a lot of discipline to go down there to use it (it’s pretty icky down there). Derrick on the other hand, can not use the treadmill down in the basement as he’s too tall. We literally don’t have anywhere else in our house to put it though, so we decided to give it to my brother (who’s been hinting that he wants it for about 6 months) and get an exercise bike instead. It fits upstairs in Derrick’s office & since it’s silent, we have the freedom to use it whenever & not worry about waking the kids! I know the Peleton is super-duper popular, but after doing some research (because it’s also super-duper expensive), we realized that we could get a much less expensive bike & simply subscribe to the Peleton app & get the same experience for way less money – so that’s the plan! I am SO excited to try cycling – I’ve always thought that I would love it (I’ve tried running multiple times throughout my life & I just hate it every single time). So, as soon as I can fully kick this cold, I’m excited to begin exercising again on a regular basis!
  • Our little prince is getting an upgrade to his bedroom today! A few months back, we swapped rooms with him so that we could have free access to our (newly remodeled) 3rd floor, but that meant that the room I’d decorated for him was now our bedroom & he was moving into a room that had been painted for Derrick & I’s room. It’s taken a few months, but we finally got the pain & today is the day!! We already did the first coat this morning & I’m absolutely obsessed with the color! In fact, I’m not sure that I ever remember loving a paint color so much, so fast! Paint is so difficult to pick out, so I’m just thrilled that I seem to have picked a winner. I’m so happy that my little boy will now have his own, little boy room.
