Highlight of the Week

Ever since my “scare” over the last 2 weeks with the glucose tests & the potential gestational diabetes diagnosis, I’ve really buckled down on what I’ve been eating. It’s not like I was eating big bowls of ice cream every night & drinking chocolate milk every morning (like some people confess to doing when you Google about gestational diabetes), but looking back at my eating habits, I definitely could have been eating better. That’s the thing with being pregnant, everyone just encourages you to eat whatever you want: have 2 pieces of chocolate cake (because you’re eating for 2). Craving chocolate chip cookies? Feel free to bake a batch & eat the entire thing. Having a slight aversion to vegetables? No need to eat them! I honestly was not doing any of those things, but that is exactly what everyone tells you when you’re pregnant. So, after failing my glucose screen and having to go in & take the (torturous) 3-hour glucose test, I took the advice of my Mom & a few friends, and began eating a low-glycemic diet – specifically the Trim Healthy Mama diet. In a nutshell, you can still eat almost anything (with the exception of sugar, & processed stuff), you just separate how you eat things. You eat fats with fats (and don’t add in any carbs) and eat carbs with carbs (and don’t add in any fats). After eating that way faithfully for the last 2 weeks, I feel so much better. Derrick & I have tried several different “diets” over our marriage, and none of them have ever made a difference in how I feel (or in any major weight loss). Eating this way though, I have so much more energy & I just feel better. It’s awesome.

Yes, This Happened

  • I am now 29 weeks pregnant & baby boy is approximately the size of a butternut squash.
  • I’m getting more & more “useless” in my “pregnant-state”. “Useless” might not be the right word – I’m just choosing not to do things like carrying overflowing laundry baskets up & down the steps, or carrying totes of fall decorations down 2 flights of steps. That being said, I’ve been itching to bring out my fall decorations (I don’t have much, but the difference between my fall decor & all of my other seasonal decor is that I’ve bought most of it – so it’s all stuff I really really like. Most of my other decor are “hand-me-downs” – which I am so thankful for – but I am specifically attached to my fall stuff). I had to wait all week for Derrick to bring the 2 boxes down from the 3rd floor for me. He finally did & now my house is officially out of the “black hole” that is spring/summer decor & freshened up with fall stuff. Derrick suggested we just skip fall & go straight to decorating for Christmas. I actually did think about that, but I really love my fall stuff. It’s safe to say, we’ll be decorating for Christmas early this year as it is!!
  • We’re finally talking about baby names! Everyone keeps asking if we have names picked out & the answer is: we honestly haven’t even talked about it yet. I finally figured out how to download e-books from the library, so I have a couple baby name books downloaded on my iPad & I’m finally ready to sit down & start this process. Picking a name for our baby is so hard – it took us weeks to pick out Braelynn’s name! We’ll be keeping the name we ultimately pick out under wraps anyway, but I’m excited to finally begin the process (as overwhelming as it is).
  • Derrick has hit 1,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel!! It’s a huge milestone that he’s been chipping away at (for what feels like) forever. I’m so proud of him & all of his hard work in building his channel. It’s so crazy to think that just a few years ago, he was pouring all of his roller coaster knowledge into me (his one & only willing listener) and now he can talk & share about his great passion to his heart’s content through social media. It’s so good. (If you haven’t followed his channel yet, go give him some encouragement! You can get to his XScreamThrills Channel here!)

Feeling Blessed

We’re back at the Lake House this weekend. It’s literally impossible for me to believe that it’s already the end of September & we only have one more weekend here – how is that possible? It still feels like summer! October is just 2 days away? Time is just flying by.
Anyways, I’m so thankful to spend the weekend away. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind between the glucose tests, the weddings, the portraits, and the engagement sessions I’ve shot – I’ve been editing my fingers off! So, in other words, I’m soaking up this beautiful weekend away before heading into my busiest October yet! It’s going to fly by!
