Abby’s Saturday // Two Hundred And Ninety-Nine

Black Lab and Little Girl Wearing Masks in Irwin PA
  • Happy summer! Last Saturday it snowed – this Saturday we’re running around in bare feet & shorts – what a difference a week makes!
  • Well, we did it. We officially ventured out into a public space for the first time since mid-March. 8 whole weeks spent at home. Wow, who would have ever guessed back in March that we wouldn’t step foot in another public space for 8 long weeks? We broke the cycle this weekend though – we donned our masks (made by a sweet girl from our church down at the Lake) and we went out! And, aside from those masks, it felt delightfully normal. Yesterday, my sister Ruby & I went to the greenhouse & got some plants (more on that in a minute), then this morning, Derrick & I took the kids hiking at a local park & then got ice cream on the way home. And then tonight, since I was on a roll, I went to Target. If you read that in a dreamy-sounding voice, that’s exactly how I said it. I went with the intention of just grabbing a few things, but ended up simply walking up & down the aisles, soaking in the first “alone time” I’ve had in 2 months. It felt so good. And yes, I bought more than just the few items I went in to buy, but hey – that’s okay!
  • But, back to the greenhouse – my sister Ruby & I went to the greenhouse yesterday to buy a few plants & I came home with 2 azalea bushes, a sunflower plant, and a dahlia plant. And today – was planting day. We planted everything, plus planted Zinnia & Marigold seeds we had harvested & saved from last year. Now, I are am just crossing my fingers that everything takes & nothing dies (I have a notorious black thumb & I tend to kill just about everything – so I’m really really hoping that isn’t the case this year!)
  • After a crummy start to the week, we did have a few nice days – Braelynn finally got to try out her new scooter (in a larger space than just our living room!) She’s so funny with it – she can’t quite figure out how to balance enough to coast, so she just keeps pushing herself faster & faster – but then she can’t balance enough to pick her foot up & apply the break – it’s quite the sight. She’s getting the hang of it though & it’s a lot of fun to watch her learn!
  • Leander finally has found a favorite movie & set of characters! He is almost 18-months old, and by this age, Braelynn was already head-over-heels obsessed with Daniel Tiger. It’s taken him a little while, but we’ve finally found something he likes: Cars & Lightning McQueen. We’ve watched all 3 Cars movies over the last few weeks & he seemed to really enjoy them, but this week, it actually seemed to click. One rainy afternoon this week, I told Braelynn she could watch a movie & she picked Cars. I wasn’t really paying super close attention at first, but it didn’t take me long to realize that Leander was watching it just as intently as Braelynn. The next day, Braelynn happened to nonchalantly mention something about the movie Cars & for the next 20 minutes, Leander ran around the house, yelling at the top of his lungs, “CARS! CARS! CARS!” To his delight, she turned on the soundtrack from the movie on Spotify & he got so incredibly excited – it was hilarious! Needless to say: I have the feeling we’ll be planning a “Lightning McQueen” themed 2nd birthday in a few months.
  • Last Sunday was Mother’s Day (it feels like it was a lifetime ago already). I woke up to Braelynn bringing me a tray of goodies – she had made me a card, had created me a bouquet of paper flowers, and had added a granola bar for breakfast. If there is a better way to wake up on Mother’s Day, I’m not sure what it is.
  • Tuesday was my favorite day of the month – our Tuesday’s Together meeting. I know I talk about it every month, but I co-lead the Greensburg chapter of the Rising Tide Society with my dear friend Tiffany. We are simply a group of creative entrepreneurs who get together once a month to encourage & help one another. Once again, we met virtually – it’s just not the same. Hopefully next month, we get start meeting in person again – fingers crossed!
