Abby’s Saturday // Two Hundred and One

Black Lab with American Flag - Happy Memorial Day

Highlight of the Week

So, once again, we’ve been outside almost every single day this week (and when I say “outside”, I don’t just mean that we popped out really quick for a few minutes, I mean that we’ve sat outside for hours every single day). We’ve been putting Braelynn’s little water table & the patio my brother helped me set up last summer to good use! Anyways, on Thursday afternoon, while I was sitting at the table on the patio, I saw a chipmunk come scurrying under the fence & begin running right for my corner of the patio. Of course, I jumped a little bit & the sudden movement scared him back against the fence. He couldn’t figure out how to get back under though, so as I watched, he scurried into the safety of a downspout we have at the corner of our house. I figured he’d hide in there for a few minutes & then go on his way.
A few hours later, Abby was over in that corner of the yard & she caught the scent of the little chipmunk (who was still hanging on in the downspout!) Of course, she got a little excited & started digging & pawing at it, trying to get him to come out (and caught Braelynn’s attention, so she ran over to see what was going on). The chipmunk, of course, was freaking out, squeaking, and I could hear him shimmying up & away from Abby. It was all quite comical. But then I started to get a little worried: what if the chipmunk, now cornered, felt the need to rush out of the downspout & attack? I mean, they’re little guys, but I can only imagine that they can bite & scratch a dog or toddler really good. So, I called Abby & Braelynn up onto the porch & then reached out to shake the downspout. It took a few good shakes, but I eventually knocked him loose & out he ran!
And that was our adventure with a chipmunk this week.

Yes, This Happened

  • At bedtime one night this week, Braelynn kissed Derrick on the cheek & giggled: “Your cheeks are fuzzy, Daddy.” And then she turned to give me a kiss & commented: “Your cheeks are smooth, Mommy.”
  • Derrick has some new YouTube videos out this week: A Review of Volcano & A Review of Dominator (both at King’s Dominion in Virginia). If you haven’t subscribed to his channel yet, what are you waiting for?
  • Braelynn is obsessed with picking flowers – she picks handfuls anywhere we go that there are flowers growing (we just had to have some serious talks about picking flowers that are growing in the grass vs. picking flowers that are growing in people’s flower beds). Her favorite finds are what she calls “Wishes”. Can you guess what she’s referring to?
  • I posted “Chapter 13” of Derrick & I’s love story this week – if you’ve read every single chapter so far, you get some sort of award, because holy smokes – 13 chapters?! Am I crazy?
  • They’ve been paving roads all around our house this week – not the road my house sits on, but we have an alley to our house’s left & behind that has gotten paved. Plus, they’ve paved the road that sits one house to the right of our house. Needless to say, we’ve been quite entertained watching the numerous trucks, bulldozers, and rollers zooming up and down our street, in and out of the alley & that other street.

Feeling Blessed

We’re finally at the Lake House!! What a strange year it’s been – normally by this point, we’d have gone down at least a few times already, but with winter hanging around until mid-April & weddings almost every single weekend in May, this has been our first opportunity to go! And, no matter what, we had to go this weekend because I have a wedding at the Lake today!! I’m so excited – I’ve been looking forward to Phoebe & Matt’s wedding for months!! I don’t want to spoil their blog post, but they’re the sweetest couple from Texas who are traveling up to the Lake for a “destination” wedding – so not only do we get to officially meet for the first time today, but I get to shoot a lake-side wedding (which has been on my “wedding bucket list” forever!) Rain or shine, it’s going to be fabulous!
