Black Lab in a Red Snow Hat in Irwin, PA

Highlight of the Week

We had some surprise guests stay the night at our house Thursday night! Derrick’s parents have been on vacation in Florida & Texas for the last 2 1/2 weeks & as they were driving back home, they asked if they could stop in to see us & spend the night (of course, we said yes). We didn’t tell Braelynn – we just told her that there was a “big surprise” coming Thursday night. She has been obsessed with the thought of her birthday for the last few weeks, so she kept asking if it was her birthday party! Thursday afternoon arrived, and around the time I knew they would be arriving, I told Braelynn to go look out the window to see if anyone was at our house. She did & came back to say, “There’s a black car in our driveway.” “Well, who is it?” I asked. She shrugged her little shoulders, “I don’t know.” I told her to go & look again, and this time she gasped & started yelling, “Papa & Nana are here!! Mommy!! Papa & Nana!! Papa & Nana are here!!” It was so perfectly adorable & fun to have them stop by!

Yes, This Happened

  • I am now 31 weeks pregnant & baby boy is approximately the size of a coconut (although, last week, the vegetable comparison was a “head of cabbage” – I feel like a head of cabbage is definitely bigger than a coconut..?)
  • Fall has finally arrived in South Western Pennsylvania!! Under “normal” circumstances, I would be kicking & screaming just like Derrick currently is, however, I am 31 weeks pregnant & I cannot lie: I am loving these cooler temperatures!! The beginning of this week, the temps were up in the 80’s (it was a bit ridiculous), but on Thursday a cold front moved in & literally cut our temps in half (it is currently 41º outside). They’re predicting for us to bounce back up into the 60’s for this week & literally nothing could make me happier!
  • Braelynn woke up one morning this week & stated, “Mommy, I need a phone.” Umm, excuse me? I asked what she meant & she repeated herself: “I need a phone like you & Daddy have.” Enter all the thoughts of us being on our phones way too much that our 3-year-old thinks she needs a phone too. I asked her why she thought she needed a phone, and she replied, “So I can take pictures of Abby.”
  • We all got haircuts this week. Nothing major – just trims all around. It wasn’t technically the first time Braelynn has had her hair cut (we had her hair trimmed when she was around 18 months old & it was just crazy), but it was the first time she sat up in the chair all by herself & wore the cape – so, it kind of felt like a milestone. She barely had an inch trimmed off – but suddenly she seems like such a big girl!! Her hair now does this adorable little flip at the bottom, it’s so cute! (She fell in love with our hairdresser’s dog. So much so that she asked if we could get a small fluffy dog too.)

Feeling Blessed

We have officially (and finally) begun to work on the “nursery process” for baby boy! It is quite the process, but we’re pumped to finally dig in & begin the work – the end result is going to be spectacular (it even has Derrick, who has been kind of “down” about our house & flirting with the idea of moving, all excited & singing that we’re going to have “the best house ever”! So, if that’s not a huge “score”, I’m not sure what is!) The process involves transforming the room that is currently Derrick’s office & our guest room into baby boy’s nursery, and transforming our third floor (which was one of the major selling points of this house when we bought it 3 years ago) into Derrick’s office/man cave. So far, our 3rd floor has simply been used for storage – we didn’t have heat or air up there, so in the summer it was beyond stifling & in the winter was frozen. Now we have heat & air up there, and this morning Derrick & I tackled organizing all of the stuff that we’ve just thrown up there for the last 3 years. We threw away several garbage bags full of stuff, filled a big box with stuff to donate, and flatted at least 13 boxes that were just empty (why were we keeping those?). We organized all of our decorations & the remainder of the stuff into the “closet” half of the room – which leaves the other half of the room open & ready for whatever we want to do with it! The next step is painting the walls, then we need to get a piece of carpet for the floor, we need to blow in some insulation, and then it’ll be ready for Derrick’s computer & music equipment to move up there – which means I can then finally set up the nursery!! Step one is officially complete though, and we’re going to go get some paint this week! YAY!
