A few weeks ago, Derrick and I were given the amazing opportunity to do something a little bit different – to put aside our love of heights and embrace our love of speed – and visit one of the World’s Greatest Indoor Karting Facilities.
Three Rivers Karting is located in Leetsdale, PA – just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. They are not only home to an incredible indoor karting track, but axe throwing lanes, a huge arcade, and a brand new restaurant and bar. With the grand opening of their food area, they invited members of the media and their top racers to attend a closed event – and that’s how we got invited.
We are (obviously) not go-karting “people” (if you are new around here, we’re roller coaster & theme park enthusiasts). But we do love roller coasters – so we do have a bit of an addiction to speed – and in that way, you can see how go-karting and roller coasters might go hand-in-hand.
Just like there is a “roller coaster community” out there, there is a “go-karting community” out there. And in Pittsburgh, that community seems to center around Three Rivers Karting. We met and talked to the owner and the staff at 3RK, and got to witness the close-knit family the top racers are a part of. It was different, but not unlike the roller coaster community we love and are a part of.
We truly did not know what to expect at Three Rivers Karting, but what we found blew us away. The owner and staff are PHENOMENAL – super friendly, super helpful, super encouraging, and super fun. Like I said: we aren’t go-karting regulars (I have only driven a go-kart once in my entire life and I think I was 12) but the crew at 3RK made us feel so confident and excited to try it out, that we excitedly signed up to race again and again.
Along with the go-karts, Three Rivers Karting has an entire floor dedicated to axe and knife throwing. They also have a huge arcade upstairs. And starting September 1st, they now offer food and drinks as well (if you go, 100% do not skip out on the Vroom Vroom Shrimp – it is the BEST). We got to taste all of their food, play in the arcade, and throw axes to our heart’s content while we were waiting for our turn to race.
Their indoor race track is awesome, but when they turn out the lights and the track is only lit by LED lights for cosmic racing – now THAT is something to see! It felt like we were transported into a Tron movie.
We were absolutely blown away by our evening at Three Rivers Karting. We had so much fun (more than we even expected) and we whole-heartedly suggest checking this place out. Winters are cold and crappy in Pittsburgh and our roller coaster season is already winding down here in south western PA – so it’s wonderful to know that we have 3RK in our back pocket to help get us through the winter-slump!
