Happy new year & happy beginning of my FOURTH year creating these “daily life” family films. I absolutely love this little habit I’ve created and adore having video evidence of our family doing life together.
The theme of January seems to be SNOW! We got THREE separate snow “storms” that blew in and then just as quickly blew out in the month of January! Braelynn and Leander were simply beside themselves with joy – and Braelynn flexed her “professional” snowman making muscles by making snowmen with each dumping of snow we received. (Unfortunately, none of the snow lasted very long – but we all enjoyed it while it lasted!)
January is also Braelynn’s birthday month! Our sweet girl turned NINE years old at the end of January and we celebrated GOOD. Moments of note this month:
(0:08) Snowfall and SNOWMAN number 1! (Notice how Derrick is out in the snow in SHORTS?!)
(0:35) Since the snow was so heavy and wet, they built SNOWMAN number 2 in the front yard! (Sadly, I don’t even think he lasted a full 8 hours!)
(1:14) SNOWMAN number 3 was built and kept alive in our freezer
(1:23) And then the second big snow arrived and we built SNOWMAN number 4!
(2:26) After two big snows in a row and then a quick warm-up – our yard turned into a SWAMP!
(3:11) ONE OF MY FAVORITE CLIPS EVER – the kids did this all on their own and I love it every time I watch it!
(4:03) Snowfall number 3 arrived – we got a few inches, but it was very powdery snow, so no snowmen were built until things started to warm up (trust me, Braelynn was closely monitoring the temperature so she could still build a snowman!)
(4:43) We went sledding! It was BITTERLY cold – temps were in the TEENS – so we were all thoroughly frozen – but it was so much fun!
(6:41) SNOWMAN number 5! This puppy snowman is STILL alive and well in our deep freeze downstairs
(6:53) Our month was ALSO characterized by the building of EXTRA LARGE blanket forts! The kids built several renditions of this massive fort that literally took over our entire living room (thanks Bluey)
(7:10) Happy Birthday Braelynn! Leander and I gave her a few gifts to kick off her big day – and she opened part of Nana and Papa’s gift as well (trust me, don’t miss (7:39) – I cry every time I watch it!
(8:30) For brunch the morning of Braelynn’s birthday, my Mom, sisters, nieces, and nephew surprised Braelynn with a special “mini” party at White Tree!
(8:52) And as usual, Braelynn requested Red Lobster as her restaurant of choice for her birthday dinner! She ate SO MUCH SHRIMP that night!
(9:26) SNOWMAN number 6 was built right as the third big snow was beginning to melt – and then he quickly got demolished as some rain moved in
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
