Shoot And Share Photo Contest – 2016 Results

If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember reading a post last summer about me entering the Shoot & Share Photo Contest for the 2nd year in a row.

Well, this year was year #3 for me entering and oh my gosh – it simply gets bigger and more amazing every year!
Here’s a little example of how this contest has grown in just 3 short years. The first year I entered, there were 890 images total entered into the “Details: Ring Shot” category. Last year, there were 3,170 images entered into the same category – I had an image place in the top 20% of that category, landing at 630th place. This year? There were 6,514 images entered into the “Ring Shot” category – that’s 5,624 more images than just 2 years ago! I had an image place in the top 20% of this category again, landing at 867th place – out of over 6,500 images!!
So, 867th place might not sound very prestigious, but when you take into consideration the sheer magnitude of how much this contest has grown and how many images it was competing against – I’m actually super pumped about it!

Want some more stats? Last year, roughly 74,000 photographers participated, submitting over 110,000 images! Over 23 million votes were cast last year, blowing the previous year completely out of the water & all the way to the moon! But those numbers are nothing compared to this year! Over 225,000 images were submitted (more than double last year!) and almost 30 million votes cast! I can’t even comprehend those numbers.

I mean – those numbers are simply mind-boggling. And then to find out that I had 6 images place in the top 30% of their categories?! Don’t get me wrong – there are photographers who had so many more images place so much higher, but compared to last year, where I only had 2 images place in the top 30%? That is amazing to me.

I’m not the type of person who stands up on a chair and yells for everyone to “look at me!” (you’d more likely find me hiding under that chair) but, this makes me really excited. The fact that tens of thousands of people voted for some of my images is amazing and honestly, blesses the socks off of me!
