Kennywood Park’s record breaking roller coaster: Steel Curtain will re-open to the public on Saturday, May 24, 2025!
As roller coaster enthusiasts who’s home park is Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, PA, we have been waiting a VERY long time for Steel Curtain to re-open. After a rocky few years with more days being closed than open, the park made the huge decision to close the ride for the ENTIRETY of the 2024 amusement park season. It was a rough blow to the park last year, but one that unfortunately needed to take place so that 3 additional columns and numerous other braces and supports could be added to the ride.
Kennywood Park announced last Thursday morning that the work (which has taken approximately 13 months) has been completed and it’s time to officially re-open this record-breaking roller coaster!
The coaster is currently undergoing an intensive re-commissioning process by the park, S&S Worldwide (the roller coaster’s manufacturer), a third party engineer, and the state of Pennsylvania.
We are so excited to finally get back on Steel Curtain – this is an AMAZING roller coaster and it’s one of our favorites in the park!

I was (obviously) concentrating heavily on taking videos on Thursday morning, but I couldn’t help taking a few photos as well (all taken with my iPhone – I left my “big” camera at home. I’ll bring it to the park and shoot Steel Curtain when there are people on the trains – that’s much more fun!)
