  • If you feel like this photo looks familiar – I’ve taken a similar photo before!
Here is last year’s version: #394,
    2021’s version #342,
    2020’s version: #290
and 2018’s version: #192. (WOW my babies are getting so big!! And our sweet pup is getting so grey – you can really see the progression in these photos!)
Ugh – I always love taking this photo, but there’s something about THIS version that just has my heart melting into a puddle.
  • Derrick had to go on a quick work trip this week. One of the parts of his new supervisor position is occasionally traveling to the other branches in his district – right now, he’s still training and learning the ropes – so that was the objective with this trip, but in the future, he’ll travel to hold meetings and trainings, etc.
He was only gone one night, but you would have thought he left for a year. Braelynn was especially confused and struggling to understand why Daddy was traveling for “work” and wouldn’t be home that night (and then she kept referring to him being gone as a “vacation” – which Derrick especially got a kick out of – mostly because it was not a vacation.)
I planned a full day for the kiddos on Wednesday – so in all honesty, I don’t even think they realized he was gone. We went and met my sister and nephew for coffee at White Tree, then we went over to my Mom’s to visit and have dinner, and then we went to church!
  • So yeah! Leander went to church with us on Wednesday night! He’s a smidge too young, but he was SO excited to go. He asks every single week if he can come to “Braelynn’s class” with us when we leave on Wednesday nights, and every time we tell him that he is a little too young and needs to get just a little older. Well, now that he’s gone – he keeps asking if he can go again. He really did very good – he loved being with the older kids! So, I guess we’ll see what happens this week!
  • I started a new YouTube channel to go along with my new Instagram. Because, why not?
  • Our children let some small toy go down the bathtub drain a week or two ago (and we didn’t realize it). We just knew that all of a sudden, the water in the bathtub wasn’t draining as quickly as it should. My Dad has a snake (and has helped us remove small toys from our bathtub drain in the past – oops) but he was on vacation in Florida all last week, so we had to wait until he got home. He came over on Monday, and after quite an ordeal (it took quite a bit longer than they were expecting), they finally were able to push whatever-it-was through and get the drain cleared.
As they were cleaning up, Derrick used (my precious) vacuum to suck up some nasty mess stuff that was on the floor – and he didn’t think about it being wet. He dumped out the canister, but didn’t clean out any of the other parts of the vacuum that were wet (the filters).
In a turn of very unusual events, I didn’t use my vacuum at all on Tuesday, and then, since we were gone almost all day Wednesday, I didn’t use it then either. (I typically vacuum at least twice a day, so that was SUPER unusual.)
So, I didn’t try to use the vacuum until 48+ hours later.
And of course, the first place I tried to vacuum was the 3rd floor (also known as “Derrick’s Office”), which conveniently has a very light colored carpet.
As soon as I turned on the vacuum, I knew I was in big trouble. It smelled so bad and instantly started vomiting gunk out all over the floor.
Needless to say, I instantly brought it back downstairs and tore the entire thing apart. I threw all of the filters away and ordered new ones. I then scrubbed out every single piece I could remove from the vacuum, wiped down everything I couldn’t remove, and then set everything out to dry.
Yesterday, I got my new filters and after a few minutes of a “muddy” smell coming from my vacuum, it started to smell better. It still works great – so no problems there – it just smelled a little. I’m going to sweep up some baking soda today and put some essential oils in the filter. Fingers crossed that that helps things get back to normal! I LOVE my vacuum!!
  • So, is it normal for kids to ask for a snack literally .5 seconds after they finish eating a meal? (And, when I say “eat a meal” – I mean a full plate of good food.)
(That’s a rhetorical question, no need to answer.)
In other words, I’m just preparing for all of Leander’s clothes not to fit him in the coming days – because if the kid is not going through a growth spurt, I don’t know what is going on.
