Abbys Saturday Black Lab and Kids in Garage in Irwin PA
  • Take a look at our GARAGE!
Now, I know, it’s just a garage, but it’s not.
See – we’ve lived in this house for 8 years and we’ve never been able to use the garage for more than storage. (And in the house we owned before this one, we didn’t have a garage at all.) The roof was in disrepair and we honestly just didn’t trust it to park our car under.
So, it became our “catch all” space. We tossed stuff in there and it got forgotten about. Our garage was packed with 8 years (plus a giant pile left over from the previous owner) of junk. Late last fall, Derrick and I did a deep clean of both our garage and basement (another “pit” of despair). We got a dumpster and filled it to the brim. Cleaned out – we still had to get the roof fixed – so when we had the new roof put on our house last winter, they fixed our garage roof and put a new roof on it as well!
There were still a few lingering minor things that needed fixed/cleaned up though, but YESTERDAY, Derrick tackled that list! And we now have a cleaned out, fully functional, garage! We can actually park a car in here! It’s SO exciting!
  • The kids have been sick all week. Ugh. The picked up colds and just haven’t been able to shake them. Leander got it first, and a few days later, Braelynn got it. Derrick and I have been fighting the germs away – taking all the vitamins – and so far, we’ve been successful (fingers crossed!)
Derrick was traveling at the beginning of this week for work, so I had made plans for us to go down to the Lake House with my sister for a few days. All of those plans got cancelled. And any other ideas I had for “fun” while Daddy was gone got tossed out the window too. We basically just laid on the couch and watched lots of movies at the beginning of the week (it was super crappy/rainy outside to boot, so that didn’t help either).
Thankfully, by this morning, they seem to be on the mend. Now to suit up to go back out into the “wild” again.
  • I came down from taking a shower yesterday morning to Braelynn having done about half of her school already. WHAT?! She was so proud of herself! She had gone though her different subjects and worked on everything that she could do independently.
I feel like we’ve entered a new age.
  • We’re continuing the “Halloween” at amusement park streak and going to Kennywood’s Phantom Fall Fest today! (We went to Hersheypark two weeks ago and we were at Cedar Point last weekend.) It’s going to be a BEAUTIFUL day for riding roller coasters (I bet the park is CRAZY busy!)
  • Braelynn has been trying to learn to crochet (it’s been a good “let’s lay on the couch and relax” activity). My sister, Ruby, taught her to chain last weekend (before she came down with her cold), so my house is filled with random long pieces of chain that she’s made as “leashes” and “collars”. I’ve been trying to teach her the next step (to actually single crochet), but that has proved to be a stumbling block. She keeps trying though (just like when she was determined to ride her bike and she kept pressing forward!) One of these days, I’m going to come around the corner and she’s going to have just taken off with it and will have half a blanket in her lap – I just know it!
Braelynn wanting to crochet has reminded me how much I love to crochet too! I’ve had to watch a few YouTube videos to remind myself how to do some of the stitches, but it’s been a really fun hobby to pick back up. It’s definitely an ideal hobby to do in the winter, when it’s cold and dark in the evenings! I printed out a pattern to make a bunny – so fingers crossed I can figure it out!
  • I’ve got fall mini sessions tomorrow and next weekend! I can’t wait to see everyone! Everyone on my list are people I’ve worked with before – either for portraits or I shot their wedding! So, it’s always amazing to see people again and catch up with them. It’s going to be a gorgeous (very warm) day! (And in true “photographer-life” fashion, I had a nightmare about my mini sessions last night – that I showed up with my camera, but no extra memory cards or batteries, and I was trying to figure out if I could shoot all day without running out of space or battery power. I woke up with a headache this morning – wonder why?)
