Abby’s Saturday // Four Hundred And Thirty-Three

Abbys Saturday Starbucks Red Cup Day in Irwin PA
  • So, if today’s Abby’s Saturday photo looks familiar, it should! I have done a “Starbucks red-cup” themed photo around Christmas (almost) every year now & of course, this year is no exception!
If you’d like a stroll down memory lane, here are the other Starbucks Abby’s Saturday photos I’ve taken: #73#174#229, #277 (this one is STILL my favorite), #329 & #381.
  • We got haircuts this week (can you tell?) The kids did great .. well, Braelynn always does great, but me saying that LEANDER did great is exciting because up until the last time we got our hair cut, he 100% hated the entire experience. Then, last time we went, he was okay – he didn’t scream or cry, he sat up in the chair & let our sweet, wonderful (oh-so-patient) hairdresser trim his hair. It was a major victory. So, needless to say, I was crossing my fingers for another good experience. It started out a little shakey – he got up in the chair and let her put the cape on (so far, so good), but as soon as she got out the clippers and turned them on, he freaked out. I don’t know what it is, but he just does NOT like clippers. She turned them off and pulled out her scissors and he went back to sitting (mostly) still and letting her cut his hair in a civilized manner. I’m quite obsessed with his cute little haircut and I think he looks so grown up now!
Anyways, while we were at the hairdressers – after Braelynn had gotten trimmed, Leander had gotten trimmed, it was my turn. The kids were playing, having fun, and then suddenly, there was water spraying everywhere. Leander had pushed the knob to turn on her hair-washing-sink and the sprayer was pointing up and out. Needless to say, we gave her a really good reason to mop her floor after we left (OOPS – we love you Ms. Debbie!)
  • We went to Trader Joes with my Mom on Monday – I haven’t been there in almost 13 years! I bought all of the flowers for Derrick and I’s wedding at Trader Joes, and that was the last time I was there. My Mom has been super obsessed with the store recently though, so we tagged along for a visit. We bought some flowers (of course), some cheese, some veggies, and a whole bunch of chocolate! That’s what you’re supposed to buy at Trader Joes, right?
  • But the MAJOR MAJOR news of the week (are you ready for this?!) Our house is getting the biggest, most incredible, most noticeable update EVER. The entire outside of our house is getting completely overhauled. We’re getting a new roof, new gutters, new soffit and fascia, and NEW SIDING! Words simply cannot describe how excited we are over this whole process taking place.
Our house has always been pretty dingy looking. For the last 7 years, it’s been an orangey-tan color (in other words: not the prettiest). Then, when we replaced some of our windows upstairs, some of the siding around the windows got busted. So for years, I’ve referred to our house as “the haunted house” on our street. It just looked bad. But, until we were ready to re-side the house, there was really nothing we could do about it.
Well – the time has come. We enclosed our front porch and we finally finished replacing all of the windows – so we were finally ready.
We are getting a new BLUE metal roof. All of the soffit and fascia and trim is white, and our siding will be a grey tone. Our team of construction workers started working on Wednesday and have been at our house the rest of this week. They took down our chimney, did some repairs to our roof, and have been hard at work installing the new roofing.
It’s simply marvelous. It’s so beautiful and shiney and new – I can’t stop staring at it.
Next week, they’ll be back to finish up the roof and put up our siding (oh, and we’re getting a new roof on our garage too). Our house is going to look COMPLETELY different. With just the new roof – it already does! But with the siding – our house won’t even be recognizable. We keep joking about it, but it’s the truth: our house is about to go from the ugliest house on the street to the prettiest (and yes, we’re biased, but hey, we’re allowed.)
I’m just so thrilled with this whole process and how it’s coming along. I cannot wait for next week at this time when we have a brand new house!!
