- Another week of SNOW – this is pretty much crazy territory for us! I mean, yes, we get snow in the winter, but typically things warm up & the snow melts within a few days. Snow never just stays on the ground for weeks at a time here in south western PA – so the fact that we’ve had snow for several weeks now is just crazy!
I won’t lie: I absolutely love it.
I love it for several reasons:
1. it’s pretty
2. it means that I don’t have to deal with mud (UGH Abby’s muddy paws after being outside are the worst)
3. if it’s going to be cold, there might as well be snow on the ground! - I took Braelynn on a date this week! Derrick & I were talking about it, and she’s finally at an age where she can understand & appreciate a one-on-one “date” with a parent, so we’ve decided to start regularly taking her out. And I got to go first! We had a blast! We went & did a little thrifting (Leander must be going thru a growth spurt because all of a sudden so many of his clothes are too small!) and then we went out to dinner to the restaurant of her choice! Originally, she said she wanted to go to Applebee’s (because, she really wanted to get a “hot dog on a stick”, aka a corndog, for dinner) but then she changed her mind as we were driving & decided she wanted to go to Eat’N’Park instead (which she calls “the cookie place”). We had a delightful time – just the two of us! (I think I needed the time to go out & do something different as much as she did.)
- It’s mid-February & that means it’s time to do our taxes (yayyyyy). We had an appointment scheduled for Monday, but realized over the weekend that we were still missing one tax document – a crazy ice storm rolled thru Monday afternoon anyway – so our sweet tax lady was actually relieved when I called & asked if we could reschedule. Thankfully – that last doc came this week – so we’re all set to get those stupid things done & out of the way this coming week!
- I made a few back-end business changes this week & needed to shift a few things on my website around. I also needed to create a whole new page on my website, in order to more efficiently share information to inquiring brides & grooms – no problem, I have the power & skill to do all of that! I worked on that new page in little bits & pieces here & there, and then sat down on Thursday night to finish it off. Everything went exceptionally well, I actually mentally patted myself on the back for how smoothly that new page creation went (gold stars all around!) I even finished everything up earlier than I had expected – can you just hear my inner cheering at myself? I had done so good!
That is: until I went back out to my main website to double-check everything – and that’s when I realized my mistake.
That new page I had created? In a nutshell: I had intended to duplicate one of my existing pages & then use that “base” for my new page. However, when I made that “duplicate” – it didn’t actually work & I ended up creating my “new” page, over top of my old page – meaning my old page (a page I still definitely needed) was now gone.
And now, I had to re-create an old page on my website – from scratch & from memory.
Needless to say: that “done earlier than expected” moment turned into a “working way later than expected” evening.
Thankfully, I was able to recover most of it & after a mini-freak out moment, I was able to put things back together. It did tack on an addition 90 minutes of work that I wasn’t expecting – but it’s all fixed & back together!
These are the things you never think about when you go into business – like how much time you’ll spend just working on your website (keeping it up to date, fresh, and working properly). - Leander’s ability to say different words is just exploding – more and more he’s saying full phrases that we can actually understand! It’s SO exciting for him to be able to communicate more fully with us! Derrick had him repeating all sorts of words at dinner last night (very important things like: “roller coaster”).
- So, last night, we ran the dishwasher after dinner & it just didn’t sound right. Hoping it was just a fluke, we went to bed & this morning when we woke up & checked on it, it hadn’t really cleaned any of our dishes. I decided to give it one more try & set it up to run again and again it was making a really not-normal noise. Derrick came in to look at it – tore the bottom apart & then ended up pulling the entire dishwasher apart in the back – and determined that it had died. Not only did it appear that the motor had gone bad, but it was leaking – yay.
Honestly, I’m shocked that we were able to make that dishwasher last as long as we did! When we moved in & looked at it, we kind of figured it was on it’s last legs then (and that was 5 years ago). Who knows how long it had been here with the previous owners (and it just looked old).
SO: happy Saturday – we’re getting a new dishwasher today!
