Deep Creek Lake State Park Family Photography

I am a wedding photographer and I wholeheartedly believe in marriage. A union between a man & a woman – vows declared before God & all of their guests – it’s not something to be taken lightly. It’s a serious commitment. One that, unfortunately, our culture today doesn’t value as highly as it should.

I have photographed a lot of weddings, and one of the major pieces of a wedding day is family formal portraits. It’s something I work with all of my brides & grooms on – to come up with a detailed list of who should be in family photos so we can be sure that no one is missed. Additionally, it prepares me for any potentially sticky family situations. In my experience, having photographed 100+ weddings, it’s rare for both the bride & the groom to have their blood-parents still together. So many couples have divorced parents, remarried parents, or parents with significant others. And it’s sad.

So, whenever I have the opportunity to photograph a family who is celebrating their parent’s 50th wedding anniversary – you can bet your bottom dollar that that is an occasion worth celebrating & documenting!! And that was exactly the case with this sweet family!

This lovely family came to Deep Creek Lake, Maryland for a mini-family getaway. They wanted to take some time to celebrate their parent’s 50 years of marriage. And they wanted to commemorate their time together with photos. I was only too happy to celebrate with them!

I’ve been to the Deep Creek Lake State Park in McHenry, Maryland a few times now for photo sessions & let me say: it never disappoints!! The combination of beautiful Deep Creek Lake, with the sandy shoreline, with the big rocks, and the forest just a stone’s throw away makes Deep Creek Lake State Park an incredible location for portraits!
